Master Planned Communities, or MPCs, have grown in popularity over the last 20 years, and it’s no wonder! If you haven’t come across this term before, a master-planned community is a large-scale residential neighborhood with a greater number of recreational and commercial amenities. These neighborhoods create a sense of connection and community by offering a variety of home styles and sizes, preservation of natural areas, parks and green space, office space and retail, walkability and trail systems. Larger MPCs may boast amenities such as golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pools, restaurants and schools. 

Burleson is known and loved for it’s small town feel with all the benefits of a larger city! The culture in Johnson County is built around community, so it’s fitting that they may soon be welcoming their first MPC, the Chisholm Summit!

Burleson Development, Inc. has proposed the development of approximately 900+ acres to the east of the Chisholm Trail Parkway. Like the city itself, Chisholm Summit will be centered around three important elements: Western, Active, and Family living. The hope is to create an environment true to the rustic, western feel of Johnson County with a focus on nature and the outdoors, all the while maintaining a unique sense of purposeful community and togetherness. 

This MPC projects over 3000 residential units of various sizes, including single family homes, townhomes or multi-family homes, and senior living. Over 100 acres will be dedicated to park land, with a 10+ mile interconnected trail system woven throughout. The park land will include a community park and amenity centers for neighborhood activities, parks with play structures and splash pads for children, trail parks and open green space. Accommodating the existing equestrian center will be trails for horseback riding, shade pavilions to beat the heat, and over 45 acres with large ponds for fishing and personal enjoyment!

In an effort to provide a live-work lifestyle for its inhabitants, Chisholm Summit will include approximately 28 acres for commercial use, including a centrally located “Chisholm Square” similar in size to Old Town, and 92 acres for a Professional Office Park and Medical District with easy access to the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

This community will include homes to fit various ages, styles, needs and budgets! From custom cottages, traditional one- and two-story homes, and charming patio homes with shared front yards, to larger lots with mature trees and beautiful estates, you’re sure to find a home that suits your stage of life. Multi-family, townhomes, 55+ and senior residences will also be available. Chisholm Summit will feed into Joshua ISD, a well respected and sought-after school district. 

With talks and plans well underway, the next step is infrastructure. Construction of roadway and sewer improvements is set to begin June 2022, followed by new home construction beginning 2024.
