Exploring 76110: Fort Worth’s Historic and Charming Neighborhoods

Title Page (10)

Welcome to historic Fort Worth and some of the coziest, sought-after neighborhoods in the city. Bordered by McCart Ave. and Granbury Road to the west, Bolt Street to the south (just north of Seminary Road), I-35 to the East (give or take a few blocks), and Magnolia Ave. or the train tracks to the north. This region encompasses much of Fairmount, Ryan Place, Mistletoe Heights, and Berkeley neighborhoods among others. Eclectic, walkable, front-porch-sitting neighborhoods, you’ll find a few new builds along with historic four-squares, bungalows, and more. Take a stroll with us along these tree-lined streets and let us show you why this part of Fort Worth is a perennial favorite.

Lifestyle

One of the main draws to the 76110 zip code is the historic homes. In each of these neighborhoods, you will find most homes were built between 1890 and 1950. There are historic overlays in place in most areas to protect the beauty of these neighborhoods. If you’re considering doing a remodel, always ask your REALTOR® plenty of questions about what is permitted. There are a few new builds available, particularly around Pascal High School where developers have been at work for several years. Homes range in size and price from small bungalows to expansive residences on “the bluff” overlooking the Trinity River.

With active neighborhood associations, one favorite part of these historic neighborhoods are the charming neighborhood events. From Christmas candlelight home tours to July 4th bike parades, you’ll get a glimpse of small-town Americana in these urban neighborhoods.

What to do

Located just south of I-30, these neighborhoods are only a quick drive or bike ride away from the city’s cultural district. But 76110 offers plenty to see and do within its own boundaries. The Fort Worth Zoo is a favorite of children and adults alike. With more than 7,000 native and exotic animals, a giraffe feeding experience, an incredible splash pad, and so much more, The Fort Worth Zoo has been ranked in the top zoos in the nation by several publications. Just to the west of the zoo you will also find the timeless Log Cabin Village. Explore this living history museum and catch a glimpse of what life was like in the 1800s. Just between these two attractions is the historic Forest Park Miniature Railway. This adorable open-air train takes passengers on a leisurely hour-long adventure through the wooded Trinity Park and back with a stop for refreshments on the way.

If you want to explore the great outdoors, you can enjoy easy access to the Trinity Trails just to the West of this area. There are several places in this zip code to rent bicycles if you don’t own your own. The region is becoming more and more bike-friendly every year. There are several great parks available including Tillery Park and Newby Park.

For indoor activities, check out Cidercade, an indoor arcade with artisan pizza, retro and current arcade games, and craft beer and hard cider on tap. Enjoy unlimited game play for a flat fee. Arts 5th Avenue is another unique local find with classes, performances, and gallery shows locally produced.

Where to shop

76110 is mostly residential with no large shopping centers. However, you’ll find all of the necessities within or close by these charming neighborhoods. For home and clothing, you need only hop west to University Park Village and Waterside or north to Magnolia to find plenty of local and chain shops of all kinds. For groceries, we are big fans of Fiesta (their produce is top notch) and there’s a convenient neighborhood Walmart on the corner of Berry and Hemphill.

Where to eat

Tucked within these neighborhood streets, you will find plenty of dining options. Of course, just to the north you have all of the incredible offerings of Magnolia Avenue, such as Ellerbe Fine Foods, Cane Rosso, and Nonna Tata (best Italian food in Fort Worth, in our humble opinion). Hop over to the west and you’ll find Pacific Table, Blue Goose, and Flower Child in the University Park Village shopping area and HG Sply Co., Quince, and Ascension Coffee in the Waterside development. Within 76110 itself, there are local favorites such as the home-food diner known as Old Neighborhood Grill (do not miss this one), Enchiladas Olé, Tommy’s Hamburgers, and Esperanza’s. These are the kind of places you will run into people you know and, before you know it, you will be known as a regular.

If coffee is your thing (and, of course, it is), we recommend checking out Gold Tree Coffee Co at the corner of Forest Park and Park Hill. On Berry, you can also hop in the drive through for Dutch Bros Coffee. Also, don’t miss out on Carter’s Coffee drive through. You can find plenty of other options within blocks of 76110, including White Rhino, Ascension, Avoca, and Cherry Coffee Shop.

For adult beverages, there are some incredibly charming local options for you to explore. One of our favorites is Winehaus, a local wine bar with an excellent selection of wines and fantastic events such as jazz nights on the patio and wine tastings. For a fun, casual bar scene, we recommend Rusty Nickel Ice House and Finn MacCool’s Pub.

The Schools

The local schools in 76110 are recognized as some of the best in the city. For elementary schools, Lily B Clayton (known affectionately as “Sweet Lily B”) is everything you could want in a small, public elementary school, with incredible teachers, a historic hundred year old building, and plenty of charming traditions. When it comes to “schools of choice” or Fort Worth’s lottery schools, Daggett Montessori is a long-time favorite, and a free public school that serves Kindergarten through eighth grade. Perhaps the most famous high school in Fort Worth, Pascal High School is well-known for its challenging academic programs and producing some of the top students in the area.

If you haven’t taken the time to drive or walk through the neighborhoods of 76110, we definitely recommend you do so. Homes in this area are highly sought-after.
