An Unexpected Haven! Viridian DFW

When my husband and I first began house hunting just five years ago, we knew that we wanted more than a starter home. We had two growing boys, my grandmother, who would be living with us, and we had the added challenge of working on opposite ends of the DFW metroplex. At times it seemed too much to hope for. But the first day we visited Viridian we knew this was the place.

Just south of DFW and north of Six Flags Over Texas lies an unexpected neighborhood. Unexpected because it continuously surprises people with its beauty, affordability, and amenities. Many DFW residents overlook Arlington when house hunting. But nestled in the heart of north Arlington you will find one of the most beautiful and well-executed master-planned communities in the nation.

Location:

Less than 5 minutes from I-30 and 183, Viridian is a great location for those who need to or want to easily access all corners of the metroplex. Viridian enjoys close access to AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park, plenty of restaurants, and the impressive new entertainment and dining venue Texas Live. Although a part of the city of Arlington, Viridian is zoned for the competitive H.E.B. district, meaning there are great public school options available to families. On top of being a part of a great school district, Viridian now boasts its own elementary school!

Community:

Sometimes the feeling of a real community can be lacking in newer developments, but the carefully designed layout and public spaces at Viridian encourage neighbors to get out and meet one another. I love walking the trails and waving at a neighbor or running into my kids’ teachers at the beach. There are also plenty of events and clubs such as book club, wine club, and bridge club. Even if you’re not one to partake in clubs, there are plenty of other ways to experience this warm and inviting neighborhood. On beautiful days everyone is outside walking the trails, enjoying the lake, letting their dogs run around in the private dog park or letting kids run around on one of the playgrounds. The rec center and lake also offer so many events and classes. You can participate in yoga or zumba classes, tournaments at tennis center, or sand volleyball matches at the beach.

Amenities:

Speaking of the many opportunities Viridian offers, we have been blown away by the sheer number as well as the quality of the amenities. As well as the many already mentioned, there are so many more features that range from practical to fun. Near the lake there is an amphitheater for outdoor events and among the fabulous pools you will find toddler splash pool as well as a 25 foot conversation pool. The lovely Lakeview Events Center offers spaces to rent for everything from a large-scale conference to a small family party. If you choose to join the Sailing Center, there are classes and camps in sailing available and members can enjoy the use of any of the center’s sailboats and paddleboards. Viridian also boasts mountain bike trails, a private beach, and private access to the extensive River Legacy Park biking and jogging trails.

Nature:

Right away, any visitor to Viridian will be struck by the natural beauty. And anyone who enjoys the great outdoors will revel in the miles of trails that connect to the beautiful River Legacy Park and the serene, private lake that offers the option of canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and sailing. From the beginning, the design of Viridian represented a commitment to conservation and to the significance of green space. Not only were 1000 acres of land dedicated to a wetland preserve, but Viridian was designed so that every house would be within 750 feet of a green space. This means around nearly every corner there is a public square, a park, a playground, or nature preserve. Viridian has been named a “Certified Gold Signature Sanctuary” by Audubon International and is home to thousands of birds, including ducks, egrets, geese, cranes, and red wing black birds! Viridian has also implemented dozens of conservation systems including drip irrigation systems and LED lighting and consistently exceeds local environmental standards.

Living:

Of course, most importantly, Viridian has so many great options when it comes to the kind of home you are searching for. From fully-customizable new builds to spec homes and even townhomes. There are homes to fit almost any budget and need. New homes are being built all the time and there are opportunities to select your lot and choose from any of the impressive builders in the community. Or, preowned homes pop up from time to time and offer great value in the same beautiful setting. Recently Elements at Viridian has opened, a section of the neighborhood dedicated to 55+ residents. There truly is something for everyone!

There are no perfect neighborhoods, but I’m so thankful we found this one. It’s turned out to be the perfect place to raise our family. While my work takes me to many wonderful places in the metroplex, Viridian will always have a special place in my heart.
