Heroes Home Award: Recognizing Community Heroes Through Homeownership

At LEAGUE, our commitment to service goes hand in hand with our deep appreciation for the heroes who dedicate their lives to protecting and uplifting our communities. That’s why it was a natural progression for us to embrace an amazing initiative born within the LEAGUE family. Former police sergeant turned LEAGUE agent, Jake White, shared his visionary project with Jake Little (Service First Mortgage). Together, with the collaboration of fellow LEAGUE agent Todd Allen, they set in motion a profoundly meaningful program. We're proud to introduce the culmination of their efforts – the Heroes Home Award.

How it Began

When Jake Little and Jake White met, they bonded over the fact that they had both shown up to lunch wearing khakis. While there are many lunch meetings in real estate, this one was different. After a nice introductory conversation – hometowns, favorite restaurants, and hobbies – lunch was wrapping up. That’s when Jake and Jake began talking about Jake White’s previous career as a law enforcement officer for over 20 years and a question was posed.

What if our community's heroes had an easier path to homeownership?

Coming home after a long day of working is like nothing else. The home is where we feel most comfortable; where we laugh and eat and dust and mop and cry. It is where community is built. When you spend your days running, putting out fires, chasing kids around a classroom, or saving lives, coming home after a long day means more. These community heroes sacrifice one 12 hour shift at a time, day after day.

So, why not give back? The Heroes Home Award was born out of this idea that homeownership should be achievable for those who serve and make our communities. With rising costs of housing, it can be difficult for many first responders, teachers, and nurses to buy a home. However, with the help of the Heroes Home Award, the gap is shrinking. The HHA program works by giving up to $7,500 back at closing to help cover closing costs, something that is usually a heavy cash burden.

In 2023 alone, this money has enabled real people, real heroes, to be able to buy a home. In fact, the Heroes Home Award has put over $143,000 back into the pockets of community heroes between the HHA credit and negotiated seller paid closing costs. That is $143,000 that will help those who help us all.
